The Jewish harvest festival of Sukkot is celebrated by building a little temporary structure outside, and hanging out over the course of a week in this three-sided hut which, by definition, has a roof that you can see the stars through.
How do you find ways to connect with nature while you are at home?
It doesn’t take that much to build an altar of welcome. A single flower. Plates laid ready to welcome those who would come and eat. Warm anticipation of the awaited guest.
How might you welcome your own presence with as much hospitality as you welcome a beloved guest?
There is no one right shape of rock to use in building a stone wall. The skill of the builder is in creating the right relationships between all of the varied parts. Perhaps there is no piece of your life that doesn’t belong. Maybe you just haven’t found the right spot for it yet.
What aspect of your life are you having a hard time making fit?
Don’t you have a drawer like that? One that accumulates bits and pieces: bent nails, old bobby pins, thumb tacks, crayon ends, paper clips, safety pins, batteries, screws and assorted random hardware from build-it-yourself-furniture? Every now and again the time comes to clean and organize these drawers, and throw out the random useless bits. But not yet.
