When I receive a comment that says that what I have accomplished so far is good, I feel that I am on the right track. If I receive an evaluation after completion expressing high value, I am pleased. Sometimes it may be a gentle Thank You from someone with a physical difficulty or even just a kind word, I feel rewarded.
