Eid Al-Adha

eid_al_adha_06 - public domainThe Muslim festival of Eid Al-Adha marks the end of the Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca, and honors Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael at Allah’s command. The name Islam itself means submission.

What, if anything, are you willing to submit yourself to that is larger than your own desires?

  1. An obvious thing to which I and all others must submit to is death. I have not reached the point at which I welcome it. Others whom I know believe that they will receive eternal life at some time after their mortal end. They perhaps live with an acceptance of death because of this. I can not see or understand that the mortal body can be brought again to life in a paradise or heaven where all is happiness. I have treasured my mortal life on this planet and am grateful for having had it. My immortality will exist, I believe, in the memories and gratitude that others will remember through my relationship with them and will, I hope, treasure. I, in turn, have experienced this way of treasuring those gifts which I have already received from loved ones who have already died.
