Groundhog Day

GroundhogDay (1)Perhaps within each of us there is an awkward little animal that periodically pokes up its head and wonders whether it feels ready to leave the safe, if claustrophobic, burrow that it has been hiding in. Sometimes just a shadow is enough to scare it back underground, but spring always comes eventually.

What would it take for your inner groundhog to believe that it’s safe to come out?

  1. My inner groundhog is my friend for it keeps me warm and safe during the cold. A safety valve of sorts. Honoring this part of myself is a pleasure. Life is restored, not dormant, when tucked away. And when the sun comes out, the rest of me follows–refreshed from a long winter’s nap.

  2. Revealing oneself to others can be difficult sometimes. It takes courage to express a dissenting vote, for instance. This reflects what’s inside a person in contrast , perhaps, to the opinions of others, However, when a cause is being considered, all opinions need to be put on the table. Even in personal situations, the current “help” advice is to clear the air with “communication”. As difficult as it may be, I believe that productive communication (and who knows if it will be effective) is the way to go.
