The time to open is coming, but it isn’t here yet. And until that time arrives a circle of thorns might just be the best way to remain safe.

How do you keep yourself safe while waiting for circumstances to change?

What have you learned while waiting?

On this longest night of the year the world takes a deep breath, resting in the shadows for a moment before tipping, ever so slightly, toward morning.

Take a deep breath. How will you appreciate this particular moment, dark or bright as it is, before it tips toward something new?

Wood is neatly stacked. The canoe is safely stored. It took some effort, but now we’re ready to settle in for the season.

What preparations make you feel secure and at home?

The world is full of urgent problems: natural disasters, refugees living in dire conditions, people who can’t even escape dire conditions to become refugees. Time is of the essence in responding. And yet, any effective response requires time for planning, time to transport supplies and people, time that we don’t have, but need to take in any case.

How are you using a time of waiting to prepare for action?
