In what moments do you feel most connected to the whole of the universe?

Sometimes things fall apart—not just a little bit, but badly. And even if you have pretty good ideas about how to rebuild, before you can do that you need a place to sit down and survey the scene.

When has making money felt like art to you?

If the plum blossom opens too early, it risks being destroyed by wind and frost. If it waits too long there won’t be time for the whole process of pollination and fruiting. Opening up is always a best guess and an act of courage.

What moves you to take the risk of opening up?

Most people, it seems, regard taxes as a necessary evil at best, and a form of robbery at worst. But surely there is something to celebrate about the fact that we all band together to buy things that none of us could afford on our own, like roads or libraries.
