White Water

For a river rafter or kayaker, white water is the dangerous part of the river, the place that threatens to throw them overboard to hazards of bone-breaking rocks and even drowning. The white water, of course, is the whole reason they go out on the river to begin with.

Blackberries

For most of the year blackberries are a scourge: a thorny, invasive vine that is impossible to get rid of. But for a few weeks of late summer the blackberry vine redeems itself with mouthfuls of tangy sweetness.
