Boundaries

Pluralism has to come with boundaries. While we are open to a wide range of beliefs, we do not, for example accept beliefs that dehumanize others or that promote hate. Our boundaries are based in our values, principles, and covenant, and reflect an agreement on how we treat one another in a diverse community.

How do you formulate boundaries about what beliefs are and are not acceptable?

  1. Treating all with kindness, respect and dignity, but avoiding bullies and those who act aggressively toward myself and others.

  2. As a Unitarian Universalist, our first principle is the inherent worth and dignity of all human beings. Acts of violence and hatred should not be tolerated. As I journey alongside others and try not to judge, i must be ever mindful that tolerance and boundaries should work both ways.
