For the first time in my 89th year of life, I am serving as a pseudo-grandmother to a youngish university student who is obtaining his second Master’s degree and expects to stay in the United States, work, marry and be a loyal US citizen since he was born here 34 years ago while his parents were attending the university. I have no prior experience with brothers, sisters, husbands, children nd am trying to learn how to do the right things to encourage him through this time in his life. I’m learning how to connect myself to another individual in a more personal way than ever before.
