Big Impression

zebra-spike - picography creative commonsIt seems very odd that the stripes that make zebras so eye-catching and distinctive are actually an evolutionary strategy to make them better at hiding from predators. We don’t necessarily know what makes us stand out in a crowd.

When have you been surprised that you made a big impression?

  1. Once I had an opportunity to be part of an audience some of whom read aloud favorite poems in the presence of the community and the then Poet Laureate of the United States. I was asked to participate: I read a small poem entitled “The Green Moth” which carried the thought of soft gentle thoughts coming at night like a quiet beautiful green moth. I’ve enjoyed it since I found it when searching for poems for kindergarteners. To my surprise, I later received a letter complimenting me and remarking that it was his favorite reading of the day from a lawyer in the St. Louis area connected with a prestigious law firm. I treasure the letter and the poem.
