Stripes and Bows

Mismatched ShoesHave you ever gone out into the world wearing shoes that didn’t match? So long as you have one right shoe and one left shoe, it’s an unconventional fashion choice, not a mistake.

What do you like to wear that might seem like a mistake to someone else?

  1. LOL Earrings – some days I look at the earring tree and just can’t choose. Over the years I’ve collected many earrings that have been gifts or represent a visit to a particular place, event or time of life. Sometimes I choose earrings based on
matching clothing – other times it’s a much more affective choice. “Wearing ‘that friend” today for a particular reason. I have three ear piercings. I have been known to need a particular combination of earring energy and have selected
three different ones to wear….and it looks like a mistake. But it’s also served
as a conversation opener too. Love the mixed shoes – alas heels like that are
ancient history for me. I’ll stick to earrings.

    1. Layne, sounds like fun. Earrings, yes! High heels, no; a thing of the past for me, too! Thanks for a laugh.

  2. Sometimes I realize, and other times I don’t: wearing tee shirts for daily trips with messages has been a habit of mine since I retired. I even joke about the fact that I think about matching shirts and socks! However, sometimes I wear one with a slogan that may not “go” with the occasion. I have one that says “When you’re in the Peace Corps, you don’t know what you’ll miss” and has an illustration of a lovely toilet with it. I’m never ashamed, just forget what my slogans are sometimes!
The other conversation piece I wear is a jacket loaded with badges of the many places I’ve visited nationally and abroad. It always gets stares and sometimes comments like “Wow! you’ve really been places”. I like that!

  3. Scrunchies. Often considered a fashion faux pas, I’ve stuck with them for 20+ years because they come on and off easily without tearing my hair. A few years ago, a health condition made me lose a considerable amount of hair–it was like finding a dead gerbil in the drain after each shower–and even though that has been resolved, I do not take my hair for granted and I am especially careful to be gentle to it and keep it in the best condition possible. Hence, scrunchies.
