Bright orange is always a bold statement, especially when it covers an entire hillside. Poppies are not concerned whether they match with the rest of the scene. They just shine.

Standing out in a crowd comes from the crowd; I may find that some in the crowd perceive that I am standing out but I don’t intentionally plan to do so. This can be either adulatory or embarrassing. A compliment about something extraordinary that another sees in me is pleasing; a comment that says the person thinks I am taking over the discussion with too many words and too much time can be an embarrassment to me. Both can be a learning experience.
