Best Friends

KittyHugWhat a privilege it is to rest in the company of someone—human or otherwise—who simply accepts you as you are, offering love without conditions or expectations. For pets this gift of love seems to come naturally. We humans often have to do a lot of letting go in order to simply be present.

Who has offered you unconditional love and friendship? Who do you offer it to?

  1. “Unconditional” is a strong word and indicates a relationship that is powerful. Several relationships come to mind: the unconditional support and acceptance of my mother for one, and another from my friend Mella. She and I met in mid age, both teaching in a small town in Kansas. As our personal friendship grew, I understood that Mella liked me unconditionally, almost as a sister that she never had. Times together at work, in leisure, traveling together…in all times, I knew that she was giving me her love unconditionally even though I’m not sure that I was as reciprocal as I could have been. The person I feel that I have been able to grant unconditional love to is an acquaintance whom I met in older years. Both of us were unattached and enjoyed mutual interests. I have always felt that I would offer him this kind of love since I held him in trust. As time has passed, he has declined in health because of Parkinson’s Disease, robbing him of much. I try to understand which is Will and which are the effects of the disease. Offering what I can still allows me to give to him, unconditionally.

  2. I have few best friends and time I spend with them is countless. We can laugh together, have fun, have serious conversations and I still can feel that they like me the way I am. Thanks for having them and I wish everyone to have such a great relationships :))
