Simple Gifts

dandelionsAnyone who has had their day brightened by the gift from a child of a bouquet of slightly wilted weeds knows that best presents are not always the most extravagant ones.

What gifts without cost have you given or received lately?

  1. It’s strange how something unexpected can happen. At our fellowship silent auction a year ago, there was a faux leopard coverlet which the donor had said, “I hope Charlotte is here because she would like this”. She wasn’t; I bought it; I liked it . Later our music committee meeting which Charlotte attended was at my home; I realized that to be the perfect time to “gift” her and for both of us it was a big, happy surprise. Just the way the story should end!

  2. I heard from our son who is Manila, safely in a hotel, and waiting for a flight home on (their time) Sunday morning. My word of gratitude today is “connection” for I am thankful he was able to get through to us, his worried family, and am thankful for a willing pilot and staff who will fly into a storm to pull out those anxiously watching the sky, and am further thankful for the cosmic connection in worldwide prayerful concerns for those millions who are, sadly, left behind.

  3. When I was a child, my relatives would periodically send big garbage bags of hand-me-downs. It was a thrill to open up the bags and see what new treasures were inside. My aunt-by-marriage is not much older than me, and I remember being 13 or so and excited to have my first “designer” clothes when she handed down some stuff from GAP. (GAP wasn’t in every mall yet.) But the favorite hand-me-down I remember is the Batman T-shirt from Andy.
Now I am the biggest (physically) of all the cousins, and 34 years old, so no one hands down to me. But I love being the one who gives, now to my local chapter of Dress For Success.

    1. Maggie, we have a Dress For Success in our community, too and it is a great help to those who need that support.
