Listen to Trees

Tree CaveWhen we have learned how to listen to trees, then the brevity and the quickness and the childlike hastiness of our thoughts achieve an incomparable joy. Whoever has learned how to listen to trees no longer wants to be a tree. He wants to be nothing except what he is. That is home. That is happiness.
―Hermann Hesse

What have you learned by listening to trees?

  1. Interesting that “trees” are today’s subject because I recently wrote a poem about them. Rather than listening, I observed and saw that trees of various components…leaves, branches, trunks, etc…move in very different ways when affected by the elements. Some are cautious; others are brave; some are resilient; others may break. Trees speak to us, I believe.

  2. Love it. Had the pleasure of watching the sunrise sitting in a tree last weekend. What a fantastic morning!
