Jessica and I have just returned from a memorial service for Jack McElroy who was a member and former treasurer for the High Plains UU Church of Colorado Springs Co. He was seventy-two and died unexpectedly after a shocking and hard-to-take diagnosis of lung and bone cancer.
I thought about the Sermon on the Mount and its declaration that they that mourn are “blessed.” At the service that teaching did not seem to work very well. The passing of beloved and loving people is painfully mourned and that is a kind of love that we must be called to.
