First Steps

ShakyStepsLearning to walk is making a bold move into independence. What a fine thing it is to have loving hands to hold us up while we learn to strike out on our own.

Who has held you up while you learned to do something new for yourself?

  1. I’m a writer, and there’s something in the writing community called “pay forward.” It works this way: When you start out writing, people who have experience help you out. There is no way you can repay them for their help. But, once you are experienced, you can help new writers out. So instead of paying back, you pay forward and repeat the favor.

Be helped, and then help others: Pay forward. I’ve been helped, now I share what I’ve learned. (And keep learning and getting help, of course. It never ends, which is the satisfaction of writing or any other art.)
