How are you putting love into action this Christmas?
There are lots of holidays that start at sunset—pretty much all the holidays in the Jewish and Muslim tradition do. But Christmas Eve is different. A warm-up to the holiday itself, it is a time of gathering together, of singing and lights in the darkness. It is a promise that new life will come if only you will welcome it in.
Do you have beloved traditions for Christmas Eve?
You might as well tie a big red ribbon around your middle, and hang a bit of silver tinsel in your hair. It turns out that you, yourself, are a gift. Not because of what you have bought and wrapped, not because of what you have baked or decorated, but simply because that is your nature.
How will you give someone the gift of your presence today?
The fourth candle of the Advent wreath stands for peace. Peace might seem like it’s in short supply in the hectic days just before Christmas, which is as good a reason as any to carve out some moments in which you can experience peace.
