Knowing that the hand of evolution is at work doesn’t make it any less marvelous and bewildering that some beings are so extravagantly, excessively, brilliantly beautiful. How could that much splendor be a practical necessity? But, it turns out, it is.

What has amazed you when you have seen it from another person’s point to view?
Imagine the joy of a young child who discovers that they can use their own powers to create something that was never in the world before. Imagine that you never lost that wonder and joy in your own power to shape the world.

What thing that your body is able to do strikes you as miraculous?
A great aquarium makes visible to our human eyes what is out there, but which most of us would never see—an underwater world that is as complex and beautiful as our world on land. It turns out that what we observe from our own frame of reference is far from everything that is real.
What have you been astounded to find out is real?
