The Great Wall of China is one of the Wonders of the World, one of the great triumphs of human engineering and determination. Some great wonders, like the stars, are simply there for us to view, but some marvels are there because we choose to make them happen.

Somehow this tree seems to invite you to climb up and nestle in its maze of roots or the crook of all its branches, up against the heart of its massive presence. You couldn’t make a home there, but you could certainly feel at home.
