Thomas Edison said that “Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.” Malcolm Gladwell claims that it takes 10,000 hours of practice to gain true mastery of a skill. Creative genius is great, but it rarely turns into anything notable without a whole lot of hard work.
What do you care enough to work hard at, even though you don’t get paid to do it?
Any work of art begins with an idea, but the idea unfolds in unpredictable ways as the project moves along. Often, it is difficult to know when something is done.

The number of astounding things in the world largely depends on our willingness to be astounded.
What have you been amazed by lately?
Most of us present an image to the world that is glossier than what we feel inside. Sometimes that goes smoothly, but sometimes the need to keep up a shiny exterior image feels gloppy and awkward, a heavy coating over our true self.
