How have you honored differences to create authentic community?

¿Cómo has honrado las diferencias para crear una comunidad auténtica?

On this day around the world, our Sikh siblings are celebrating the birth of the first Sikh Guru. It is a day of rituals and learning, and of celebrating the teachings of Sikhism. May spend the day engaged in selfless service to others, known as seva, one of the most important practices of their faith.

How can you serve someone else today?

En este día en todo el mundo, nuestros hermanos Sikh están celebrando el nacimiento del primer Gurú Sikh. Es un día de rituales, de aprendizaje y de celebración de las enseñanzas del Sijismo. Pueden pasar el día dedicados al servicio desinteresado a los demás, conocido como seva, una de las prácticas más importantes de su fe.

When and how have you experienced the warmth of community?

¿Cuándo y cómo has experimentado la calidez de la comunidad?

I grew up in a small town that consisted of mostly families and the breadwinners either commuted elsewhere for work or worked in some capacity supporting our community.  I’d say the common goal for the majority of my town’s residents was to create and maintain a place that was safe and conducive to the enrichment of the children. As I’ve grown older, I’ve come to realize more and more the importance of community. -David Johnson (CLF)

How has community been important to you?

Crecí en un pequeño pueblo conformado principalmente por familias y el sostén de la familia viajaba a otro lugar para trabajar o trabajaba de alguna manera apoyando a nuestra comunidad. Diría que el objetivo en común para la mayoría de los residentes de mi pueblo, era crear y mantener un lugar que fuera seguro y propicio para el enriquecimiento de los niños. I’m not a good cook at all, so I’m always thrilled when friends and/or family join me in the kitchen. I love that they know where I keep my spatula, and where the pans are located. I love the slow build of chaos, while distracted with conversation and another sip of wine. -Beth Murray (CLF)

When has a disorderly moment brought you deeper into community?

No soy un buen cocinero en absoluto, por lo que siempre me entusiasma cuando los amigos y/o la familia me acompañan en la cocina. Me encanta que sepan dónde guardo mi espátula y dónde se encuentran las sartenes.
