In the ruins of an ancient city, only the foundations remain. In times of loss, when it feels like everything is tumbling down around you, it is the foundations that remain stable, that are still there when the storm has passed.
What are the foundations of your life?
When you’re driving through the clouds, it seems as though the world departs into the mist, only to return, made new, when you escape the fog. But the world is always there, even when you can’t see it, and someone else is seeing what is invisible to you.
What gives you glimpses of the world beyond what you can see at the moment?
Advent is a season of waiting, of eager anticipation. Traditionally, the purple candle in the wreath for the first week of Advent represents hope, the sense of possibility that gives us the strength to bring that potential to life.
On this first week of Advent, what brings you hope?
One lives in the hope of becoming a memory.

What do you hope to be remembered for?
Of course a steam engine is powered by steam, but that steam is created by burning coal, and the coal only burns because of the human energy of the person who shoveled the coal into the fire. What sustains us in any given moment is not necessarily as obvious as the steam that rises from the stack.
What fuels you in ways that would not be obvious to someone looking from the outside?
