Stillness

StillnessPerhaps there is all kinds of activity going on under the surface of the cold lake, in the bare branches of the trees. But, for just a little while, it might be enough to just find the stillness, the calm, the brief moment when nothing much changes.

Where do you go to find stillness?

Power

DangerToday I was reading about Marie Curie:
she must have known she suffered from radiation sickness
her body bombarded for years by the element
she had purified….
She died a famous woman denying
her wounds
denying
her wounds came from the same source as her power.
—Adrienne Rich, from the poem “Power”

How does your power come from the same source as your wounds?

Triumph

On horseWe have all known that moment of elation when we manage something brilliant and precarious. We have also all known the squint-eyed patience of being the one who holds up the person who gets all the admiration for their fancy tricks.

What does success look like for you today?

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Martin Luther KingOn the one hand we are called to play the Good Samaritan on life’s roadside; but that will be only an initial act. One day we must come to see that the whole Jericho road must be transformed so that men and women will not be constantly beaten and robbed as they make their journey on life’s highway.
—Martin Luther King, Jr.

What will you do on this day of action to transform the road that destines so many to injustice?
