Bees have a reputation for stinging, and thistles have a reputation for thorns. But put them together and you end up with honey, which is nothing but golden sweetness.
What brings you sweetness when you get past the thorns?
Sometimes the challenge in life is to find a radical way forward when you have come to a seeming dead end. But sometimes the best solution is to turn around and go back the way you came until you can find a street that will take you where you want to go. The trick to knowing which one is which might be to look for oncoming traffic.
When have you found your way by giving up and going back?
When you get to a dead end, the street stops and there’s no way to drive on. But, oddly enough, there’s always something there at the end of the street: a field you could walk across, a door you could enter. Sometimes a dead end is merely a declaration that the way forward will require radically new tactics.
How have you managed to go forward when it seemed like you have come to a dead end?
Happy Mother’s Day to every woman who has given birth. And all the women who wanted to but weren’t able. And all the women who gave birth to a child they were not able to raise. And all the women who mother children they adopted or fostered. And all the women who are not parents, but care for children anyway. And all the nurturing men who do the things that society thinks of as “mothering.” And all the people don’t have children, but who work for a world in which children can thrive.
Who do you honor this Mother’s Day?
