By the Light of Many Candles

vigil - cc0Sometimes in the face of injustice we gather to protest—to chant and speak out and demand change. But other times we create healing in quieter ways—by singing and praying and mourning and seeing by the light of many candles that we are not alone.

How do you help to bring healing in public ways?

the day the music died - morguefileAt one point it was quite the thing for rock musicians to smash their guitars onstage. Folk musicians, not so much. Perhaps someone just got really, really frustrated trying to learn the guitar.

What makes you so frustrated that you just want to smash something?

smog - cc0The haze of smog-choked skies is a far cry from the lovely soft mist of early morning. The pain of knowing the price of pollution, destroys what might otherwise be considered great beauty. What we know can hurt us, and what we refuse to know can hurt us much more deeply.

In One Another’s Shoes

When climate protesters in Paris were forbidden to gather because of security concerns following the Nov. 13th terrorist attacks, they set up thousands of pairs of shoes to stand in their place. In the face of terror, in the face ecological devastation, we go on by finding a way to understand that we walk in one another’s shoes.

How do you express solidarity in the face of the world’s brokenness?
