What preparations make you feel secure and at home?

The world is full of urgent problems: natural disasters, refugees living in dire conditions, people who can’t even escape dire conditions to become refugees. Time is of the essence in responding. And yet, any effective response requires time for planning, time to transport supplies and people, time that we don’t have, but need to take in any case.

How are you using a time of waiting to prepare for action?

For many of us, baking is a holiday tradition, setting the tone for a time of festivity. Presents may need to wait for the appointed day, but why not enjoy a cookie now?

It’s later than you think. Or earlier. Our sense of time is never quite accurate, and never quite as regimented as the hands of a clock ticking forward.
