If the plum blossom opens too early, it risks being destroyed by wind and frost. If it waits too long there won’t be time for the whole process of pollination and fruiting. Opening up is always a best guess and an act of courage.
What moves you to take the risk of opening up?
Most people, it seems, regard taxes as a necessary evil at best, and a form of robbery at worst. But surely there is something to celebrate about the fact that we all band together to buy things that none of us could afford on our own, like roads or libraries.
What are you happy to support with your taxes?
There’s a lot to be said for persistence, for sticking it out and finding a way to solve difficult problems. But sometimes the best—or only—solution is to escape, to leave behind something that won’t work, whether or not you know what you are running toward.

They say that you can’t know a person until you have walked a mile in their shoes. But really, even then, their shoes probably wouldn’t fit you the way they fit them.
