The Open Road

The poet Walt Whitman famously wrote that “I take to the open road,/ Healthy, free, the world before me.” Somehow, it’s hard to imagine taking to the road more lightheartedly than in a rainbow-colored school bus.

How have you found freedom on the open road?

Artistic Freedom

A bald-headed vulture might not be your idea of the perfect model for a beautiful piece of art. Good thing that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

What work of art do you love, although it is not conventionally attractive?

Freedom of Speech

One of the most treasured freedoms is that of free speech—the ability to openly express one’s beliefs, without regard for whether others agree with you or not. But free speech also has limits, such as prohibitions on slander and libel, and the famous notion that you can’t yell “Fire!” in a crowded theater.

Do you think that hate speech should be prohibited? Is it more important that people be free or that they be just or kind?
