Terrible Beauty

“The truth.” Dumbledore sighed. “It is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with great caution.”
― J.K. Rowling

When have you needed to be cautious about telling or learning the truth?

The Really Real

Plato famously claimed that everything we saw in life was simply shadows cast on the wall of a cave, while the “really real” truth happened outside the cave, beyond human perception.

What do you view as profoundly true that is beyond what we can perceive with our senses?

No Matter Who

“I’m for truth, no matter who tells it. I’m for justice, no matter who it is for or against. I’m a human being, first and foremost, and as such I’m for whoever and whatever benefits humanity as a whole.”
― Malcolm X

What circumstances make it hard for you to be fair and impartial?

Binocular Vision

Binoculars, unlike telescopes, allow us to take advantage of the fact that seeing with both of our eyes, rather than just one, gives us depth perception. We only see with depth when we get input from more than one source.

What differences of perception allow you to see with more depth?

Thumbs Up

It is possible that the situation to which you are least likely to offer thumbs up approval is the situation that you are currently in. It is possible you are meeting it with remarkable good will. Or not. Really, either is OK.

What in your life do you offer a “thumbs up” to? What deserves a “thumbs down”?
