Discomfort

We can recognize discomfort as a sign of growth. We can recognize discomfort as a sign that we are being asked to do something new. For those of us who move through the world with some measure of privilege, we can recognize discomfort as a necessary step to centering the needs of the marginalized.

How do you need to learn to live with your discomfort so that others’ needs are centered?

Abetting

“We are here to abet creation and to witness it, to notice each thing so each thing gets noticed. Together we notice not only each mountain shadow and each stone on the beach but we notice each other’s beautiful face and complex nature so that creation need not play to an empty house.”
-Annie Dillard

What are you abetting today? What are you witnessing?

Still Small Voice

Today’s mediation is from Rev. Jan Taddeo. We invite you to center yourself on your breath and read it a few times.

Here’s an adage I’ve always liked:

Don’t just do something, stand there.
Stand in the surf, or sit on a rock, or lay your
body across the earthy loam…and be quiet.
Very quiet.
Do you hear it? That still small voice, the
echo of your soul, reverberating with the call
to your own true self to emerge.
Then the calm within becomes the calm without.
The storm blows over, the sun recovers its position of strength,
And that glorious symbol of hope and unity emerges across the sky.

Aggression

“Every act of creation is an act of aggression. To plant a garden, you must dig out the weeds, crush the snails, thin the seedlings as they reach towards the light. To write a book, you must destroy draft after draft of your own work, cutting apart paragraphs and striking out words and sentences. Creation postulates change; and any change destroys what went before.”
-Starhawk, from The Spiral Dance

What do you have to get rid of in order to make something new today?

Yes

“i thank You God for most this amazing
day: for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes”
-e e cummings

What can you say yes to today that will make the day a most amazing one?
