One version of freedom is to be free from obligation, open to anything because you have nothing to tie you down. Some people would describe this as loneliness.
How do you feel about the level of freedom vs. obligation in your life?
The problem—and the joy—of a hot air balloon is that it has no means of steering. Once you’re up in that basket, you go wherever the wind takes you, whether you had expected to go there or not. Whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing depends entirely on your point of view.
What’s the most interesting place you have ended up without intending to go there?
Passover is the Festival of Freedom, the celebration and re-enactment of the liberation of the Hebrew people from slavery in Egypt. It is also a good time to reflect on where one might personally stand in the larger story of freedom, and whether your loyalties are primarily with Pharaoh and his powers, or with the rag-tag band of wanderers searching for a Promised Land.
