The ocean is an unimaginably vast place for a tiny creature to venture out in alone. But sometimes home is just really, really big.

What holds your largest sense of home?

We take this day in the United States to honor all those who have given their lives in military service. May we additionally honor all the others who willingly walk into harm’s way to keep others safe and free, from fire fighters and police officers to whistle blowers and protesters against injustice.

Who do you honor for their willingness to risk themselves for the sake of others?

Anyone who has been to the beach with a child knows that sand in the air equals sand in the hair. If you have been to the beach with a child, you probably also know that there is no point in trying to control where the sand goes. Might as well enjoy the mess, and enjoy the lingering sand as a memento of a lovely day.

What kind of mess do you enjoy?

Yoda, I am not. Reincarnated, he wasn’t. Means this that you are not warrior?

When has an animal been your spiritual teacher?

Removing a label isn’t as easy as you might think. As often as not some scratchy tag end or sticky residue is left behind. Even when we try to set aside our prejudices, often some bit of unfair assumption remains.

When have you discovered that you had more work to do in removing a label from a person or group of people?
