Blowing Glass

Even a skilled glass blower never knows for sure what might happen when sand and pigment and fire and breath and gravity come together to make art. The graceful vase must exist in the imagination of the artist before it can become real, but what becomes real won’t necessarily match the initial vision.

What have you created that turned out differently than you imagined?

  1. My ‘Beggar Boy’ books. I knew where I wanted to start, and had an idea where I wanted to end. Everything in between flowed as it flowed and only stopped when I got to the end. My Christmas stories form the same way.
