Happy Birthday!

We give gifts in celebration of the date of a person’s birth, marking our joy that they are here on the planet with us.

What gift has made you feel recognized and appreciated for the person that you are?

  1. I find a gift that the person knows is to my taste, but not to theirs, shows they were really thinking of me. For example, every Xmas, my sister gives me a paneforte. It has to be mail ordered, and I’m the only one in the family who eats it.

  2. This past September I commemorated my 90th birthday. I requested friends to attend a reception that was organized by several friends in our UU fellowship; at that event, I asked that they (if they wished) to contribute something that it could include a “9” in the amount: 99 pennies, dollar amounts with “9” in them. Other special things happened….a song for me…a limerick for me….and instead of the gingersnaps and lemonade I expected, there were copious treats on the table…other cards, scrapbooks, other things like garden produce, apple butter….well, it was a wonderful celebration!. The final result delighted me and thrilled me: a total amount of about $1, 500 was contributed to the Boys and Girls Club here in our community! I was deeply honored and will remember this birthday forever.
