Broken Open

Whether you’re looking for a chick or a hard-boiled egg, an eggshell’s ultimate purpose is to be broken open. Whether the breaking is destruction or liberation is all in the timing.

When has the time been right for you to break something open?

  1. Right now! I decided to declare my 90th birthday a cause for celebration and announced that I wanted to have a BIG one and it was! Even though I had requested gingersnaps and lemonade as refreshment, there were some other delicious tidbits too. The background music was from my favorite CDs, (Willy Nelson and others); there was an original song dedicated to me to a Beatles melody that was hilariously sung and played by a quartet; a limerick written that I believe described me more than adequately and a gathering of friends who filled the main hall of the UU Fellowship. I took along tables full of memorabilia, starting with the hat and photo of my first (and only) musical performance in Kindergarten up to the recently purchased (funny but useful) kitchen gadget with a face and an indentation (to pull out hot oven racks) that was part of my Q and A sheet that I distributed (I knew all the answers of course). I found that declaring it “my day” suited all of us and was one of the most memorable events of my life!
