From the Ancestors

“When fear rushed in, I learned how to hear my heart racing but refused to allow my feelings to sway me. That resilience came from my family. It flowed through our bloodline.”
―Coretta Scott King

How have you learned resilience from your ancestors?

  1. I met Coretta Scott King once at a national American Library Conference at the CSK Children’s Book Award program; I think of her as a calm, approachable and thoughtful person so I can see that her comment is valid. I have an old photo of my paternal grandmother, Lulu, whom I never knew, I look at her what may be considered stern appearance that she portrays but under that I feel a great deal of common sense and resilience. It makes me believe in the influence of our ancestors’ lives.
