The blossom of a day lily shows its beauty for only a single day. But the plant blooms for a whole season, since it holds a whole community of flowers which open and bloom and die in their own time.
What community makes you feel that what matters most to you will continue even when you yourself are gone?
I volunteer as a docent at the MO Governor’s Mansion; it is a Friends group, unattached directly with the government of Missouri. However, the stately old building is revered and the First Family usually resides there. Thousands of young students and other visitors come each year and I expect that it will continue to function as a showcase and educational site for many more years.
