Simplicity

“Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple, awesomely simple—that’s creativity.” —Charles Mingus

What have you made more beautiful through simplifying it?

  1. There’s a saying, “If I’d had more time, I’d have written a shorter letter.” In my writing, whether it be a blog post or a chapter of a book, I start with a draft that includes everything I can think of, so I won’t leave out anything important. Then I go back through the draft several times on screen, each pass cutting and consolidating a little more. Then I print it, and find more ways to to consolidate. I’m always more pleased with the result

  2. Sad to say, Nothing I find myself wanting to continue adding more and more detail, sometimes in a painting or in home décor. It is something that has plagued me for ever. Perhaps sometime I can reverse this tendency and I will end up with something simple that will be very beautiful.
