Failure

“There is no innovation and creativity without failure. Period.” —Brene Brown

How has a failure led you to something unexpected and new?

  1. I was doing poorly (though not officially failing) in my French courses. I had intended to major in French, but it wasn’t working out.
Fortunately, I found out I could take all the credits I’d earned in my French classes and some other classes I’d taken because of my interests, and I could roll them over into a Comparative Literature major. That led me to take more classes that I enjoyed, and I studied a broader range of cultures and ideas .

  2. Well, when I was in undergraduate studies, I took History of Art (15 C. Belgian and Northern European Art); I produced what I thought to be an excellent notebook of research that I understood was what was assigned. Professor A. Bloch awarded me with a D and told me that I had been on the wrong track. (I never believed that and I wasn’t accustomed to Ds.) However, continuing in investigate the history of art, I pursued educating myself in this field and have made it somewhat of a priority.
