An accordion—or a glass of wine—might or might not be on your list of what makes for a truly festive occasion. We all celebrate in different ways, but it’s not a party unless you have guests.
What elements do you think make for a great celebration?

When my mother, Heather McDonald, was in charge of RE at Don Heights Unitarian Congregation, she did a series of “Celebrations”. What stamped them unique was that they were occasions not usually observed: 3 Kings’ Day, Persian New Year, Chinese Moon Festival, et al. The idea was to bring other viewpoints, other special times, into the “stone soup” of Unitarian Fellowship.
“What elements make for a great celebration?” Wow. Great question. How about simply being remembered or even just thought about? The key is expression. In the sea of self-absorption which characterizes our terse text flow, a simple inquiry about recovery from ill-health, a birthday remembered, a holiday remembrance, concern for well-being in a time of change. Celebrations?
In their own way, yes.
