Belly Up

RelaxJust imagine it for a moment. Lying sprawled, belly up, with no need to protect or defend or judge any part of yourself. Completely relaxed. Completely at ease. Completely at home.

What helps you to stretch out and feel safe and at ease?

  1. What a delightful interpretation of such a familiar expression, “Belly up!”

Other, contrasting and much less comforting uses of the term come to mind: Fortifying oneself among others as in “Belly up to the bar.” Another use being the phrase of an unsuccessful business enterprise which has gone “belly up” as in being capsized.

Surely the having the security and trust in such a vulnerable position is favored!

    1. Warren, such a complex and perhaps complete interpretation of the phrase! It made me widen my thinking. Thanks.

  2. My most vivid thought about being relaxed, almost sinking into the ground is one of lying on a grassy field with warm sunshine glowing down…with my eyes closed and feeling a soft drifting breeze blowing across my body. Ah, the remembrances of childhood. Why don’t I do that again? I use other opportunities because I have in my maturity(?) learned about the chigger creatures that find us here in the Midwest. However, relaxing in bed at night before sleep is a handy substitute.
