Busy as a Bee

BeeBees are certainly busy, buzzy little animals, diligently moving from flower to flower, collecting nectar and spreading pollen. But perhaps all the busy-ness is not so bad when your job is to move through the world gathering sweetness as you go, with your helpfulness to the world only a by-product of the diligent following of your own delight.

How do you work at seeking what delights you?

  1. This work is certainly much like that of busy buzzy bees. I love the context of ‘gathering sweetness’ as a container and had not thought of it that particular way. Working in a system of silos and that for me recalling the grain elevators on my grandfathers and neighboring farms, I’ve thought of my work as driving my tractor back an forth between the silos and creating connections. I’ll now be changing the mental metaphor to that of a busy bee – visiting various gardens within the church and cross pollinating and gathering and sharing sweetness.
    Love it.

    1. Layne, this is an interesting coincidence: years ago in a Kansas summer harvest time, I sat outside near a wheat field, watching and then painting the combine traveling the field and then depositing the grain into the waiting truck which then zipped off to the elevator to unload and return. Perhaps there were two trucks alternating but in any event, I ended up with a rather credible watercolor of the scene. Your experience brought back sweet memories to me. Thanks.

  2. Seeking what delights is somewhat based on past experiences. Knowing that, at times, I can find delight in just sitting down at the piano and randomly playing for an hour or so. Sometimes this resolves into pieces that I decide to use on Sunday mornings as pianist at our fellowship, but not always. Another newer delight is in setting my own place setting for a meal; I have chosen individual place settings for the different seasons recently and find that I enjoy my meal much more when it is purposefully set. I am enjoying my Winter setting but am anticipating my Spring setting which will come soon. Little delights at home are ones that I am enjoying at the present time.
