Darkness and Silence

DarknesAndSilenceEverything has its wonders, even darkness and silence, and I learn, whatever state I may be in, therein to be content.

When have you found wonder in darkness or silence?

  1. After a day with a lot of social interaction or other sensory input, I find silence and/or darkness wondrously soothing.

On one vacation in an area far away from artificial light, my family took a walk after dark. I had never seen the night sky so clearly. Without other light sources narrowing my pupils, I was able to see far, far more stars. In a way, the darkness made the sky brighter. I found the night sky even more wonderful than usual, which is saying something.

  2. I put darkness and silence together as a wondrous thing. Last eve I went out on a very frosty night and saw the full moon, in the clear sky but also brightening up the front yard almost as light but the stillness and darkness overwhelmed me. I was alone with just the wonder of it all.
