OK, the edge between gleeful and manic might be a little thin this time of year, but that makes it all the more important to pay attention to the sources of real joy, whether that be a romp in the snow or a gathering with friends.

I’m rarely giddy with happiness, even when I’m hypomanic. However, when I see just adorable my dog is – like when she’s frolicking with her ball in her mouth, overjoyed to be able to run – I smile or even giggle/squeal. Sometimes I have that response when my brother shows me pictures of cute animals on his cellphone.
During any season, I laugh and enjoy seeing the new kinds of toys or other small display items that light up with three or more rotating colors. I can sit, mesmerized by the glowing colors as they change and change and…
