A Wing and a Prayer

OutTheWindowEven if you know perfectly well how the aerodynamics of an airplane help it stay suspended in the air, and even if you are familiar with the statistics on how safe it is to fly, you might find yourself saying a little prayer as you lift off the ground. Even if you don’t believe that prayer changes anything. It turns out that there are many different ways to lift yourself up.

What spiritual practice lifts you up?

  1. The best way for me to approach something that needs my strong belief that all will be well is to ascertain what appears to be a risk. If I should ever find that a flight appeared to be dangerous to me, I hope I would decline going. That’s what makes sense to me. On the other hand, I know that there are reasons to expect the best in a situation, but I don’t depend on a spiritual method. I am one who anticipates that those who are in charge of something (such as a flight) know what they are doing. Obviously I can be wrong but that’s life, right?
