Earth Day

EarthDaySince Earth Day was founded in 1970 we have made great strides in curbing the air and water pollution that rampaged unchecked at the time. We have also come to realize that greenhouse gasses that seemed innocuous at the time present a greater danger than we could have imagined.

In the struggle for the health of our planet, what fills you with grief? What gives you hope?

  1. I can’t understand why people, in the face of overwhelming facts, still choose to deny climate change. My hope lies in the people that are choosing to come forward, and state publically, that they refuse to support politicians that support the fossil fuel industry.

  2. I think the thing that distresses me most is the “not in my backyard” response from many, including some of the worst polluters. By the very fact that these people do not want some polluting substance or activity on or near their own living area, it is clear that the awareness of the hazards is evident, but these people do not seem opposed to foisting the burdens off on others who do not have the money, power or knowledge of how to work within the system to fight. There seems to be little or no understanding that we all live in one world, and no amount of money or power will shield anyone from the results of such actions as our world continues to deteriorate.
