World Food Day

What did you have for breakfast today? When you got up this morning did you know that you would be able to have enough food today to sustain you? Today marks World Food Day, an international event that honors the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations on this day in 1945.

How do you express gratitude for the food that sustains you? How do you express that gratitude through choices that enable others to eat?

The Daily Compass offers words and images to inspire spiritual reflection and encourage the creation of a more loving, inclusive and just world. Produced by The Church of the Larger Fellowship, the Unitarian Universalist Congregation Without Walls.

So often I’m irritated that I can’t eat exactly what I want or angry with myself for eating too much. These are problems that come with privilege, and it’s good to realize that.

I’m a little stuck on what I can do to help others. The one thing I can think of is this website (http://freerice.com/category) that donates ten grains of rice for every quiz question one answers. I generally don’t visit that website, but maybe I should go there more often. It’s not much, but it might help someone a little.

I use it to stay alive. I have no choices, in what I get to eat. I eat, what the local charities can give me.
    Blessings!
