L’shana tova! Today is Rosh Hashana, the first day of the new year in the Jewish calendar. It marks the beginning of ten Days of Turning, during which Jews are expected to examine their lives and make amends for any damaged relationships.
Who might you apologize to, what relationship might you mend in the course of these ten days?
The Daily Compass offers words and images to inspire spiritual reflection and encourage the creation of a more loving, inclusive and just world. Produced by The Church of the Larger Fellowship, the Unitarian Universalist Congregation Without Walls.
I am not Jewish, but I love this holiday. I love the idea of examining relationships once per year and seeking to make amends. It takes courage. And I like that.
OK, I had a friend who announced publicly for no reason that she didn’t vote for me for School Board because I wanted to teach evolution in school. It enhanced my already sordid reputation. We haven’t really spoken since but I can say I’m sorry about that and we should still be friendly with one another. I guess she felt so strongly about Creationism she couldn’t stop herself from declaring so.
